Baby Safe Haven
About
The Zanethemba Charity Foundation has been implementing programmes aimed at the safety and wellbeing of children and youth since 2008. Currently we are running two projects. The Safe Haven Project is located in Walmer and Endangered Species Project is in the Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth.
Safe Haven
The Safe Haven (Temporary Safe Care Facility) was founded in 2008 and since then has seen more than 60 children aged 0 – 6 years old pass through our doors.
The children are removed by a Social Worker, either due to abandonment or from their families due to neglect and/or abuse and are then placed in our care with a court order. These children will remain in our care from 3 months up to 2 years depending on the finalization of their placement options which range from returning to their families, adoption, foster care or placement in a children’s home.
We currently have 6 staff members, comprising of myself as the Director, our Project Manager who is always on call and then our four day and night staff who work in shifts and who are “mothers†to these children.
